Microsoft Jumps into Web3

Microsoft makes a large investment into ConsenSys.  Started by Joseph Lubin, the co-founder of Ethereum, ConsenSys has built some of the largest Web3 tools, including Metamask.  This is yet another signal of large corporations beginning to enter the space.

Your Ethereum wallet is MORE than just a WALLET

Your wallet does more than just hold assets.  It is your ONE account.  It will interact with every application and platform on the internet.  You’ll no longer need a separate username and password for every platform you join.  Instead, your wallet will be your single login to everything.  It will also act as your identity – your name, avatar, and your digital history.

Resumes will become a thing of the past

Within a DAO, which is essentially a community based business, roles are created and earned by people who step up and contribute their skill or knowledge to the company.

Bored Ape Yacht Club acquires CryptoPunks and Meebits

Yuga Labs, the company behind BAYC, has purchased the intellectual property of CryptoPunks and Meebits from Larva Labs.  They plan to bring more utility to both collections, while continuing the culture of Web3 and letting the community dictate what that entails – “We’ll be listening to the community before we decide what comes next.”

NFTs are coming to Instagram

During a talk at SXSW, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that Instagram is preparing to integrate NFTs into their platform.  Zuckerberg also hinted that Instagram users will be able to mint their own NFTs within the app.

APE Coin

Bored Ape Yacht Club launched their token, ApeCoin, on Wednesday.  Holders of the coin will be given voting power on governance within the newly formed ApeCoin DAO.  This will be really interesting to follow the development of, as they have some big time players sitting on the DAO’s board. ApeCoin was described as “a token for culture, gaming, and commerce used to empower a decentralized community building at the forefront of web3.”

Web3 Tool of the Week

Diagonal Finance has created crypto native subscriptions.  Diagonal is built on top of another DeFi application called Superfluid.  Superfluid built the functionality to “stream payments.”  This is a game changer.  Instead of an employee getting paid twice a month, streaming payments allows them to be paid every single second, by transferring small amounts into their wallet over the course of the month.
